So I have a 2002 Dodge Neon with 50,000 miles.
The yellow , I'm assuming check engine, light comes on periodically, and I'll start driving and it'll jerk. Sometimes, it'll shut off.
Also, before it does that, it'll take longer then usual to start. I'll need to crank it for a good 2 seconds before it turns over.
Any idea what it might be?

I had the oil changed a week ago so it's not that. The check engine light doesn't turn on all the time, but it's been going on more today than it has in the week it's been doing it.

It needs a tune up, I've gone oh, 30,000 miles without one or so. I just don't want it to shut off while I'm driving it like on the highway ro something...
I get about 30 miles per gallon on the highway.....

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR AIR TEMP SESOR AND/OR THROTTLE POSTION SENSOR IS GOING BAD, BOTH ARE A CHEAP FIX FOR A DO TI YOURSELF....THE JERKING IS CAUSED BY THE MOTOR STARVING FOR FUEL OR AIR(REGULATED BY THE AIR TEMP SESOR)THIS SENSOR TELLS THE ECM HOW MUCH FUEL AND AIR NEED TO BE MIXED TO RUN THE MOTOR, SENSOR GOESS BAD....THE ECM STARTS TO PUMP MORE OF FUEL OR AIR IN THAN IS NEEDED.....NEXT TIME YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON DROP BE AUTOZONE,PEP,ETC AND HAVE THEM READ THE TROUBLE CODES...

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://biturl.im/aUNLW
Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.
You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

I have a '96 plymouth neon that has almost exactly the same problems as yours seems to have. The check engine light on my car used to come on, and stay on, when seemingly nothing was wrong. My car also started to take a lot longer to start when it got really cold outside, and the idling sounded terrible. We thought that it might be the gas, so I usually try to keep the tank almost full and add dry gas to it. Sometimes that works. As for the engine light... I don't really know what to tell you.
My speedometer doesn't work sometimes either. (Manufacturing defect.) <3 plymouth
I hope I was a little helpful, at least.

2 reasons a car won't (or will have trouble) start or continue to run:
1. No fire. (check spark plugs - the connection may be bad, the spark plugs themselves may be bad, or too much corrosion...which can be fixed temporarily with coke just poured on)
2. No fuel.
I had a problem with the first reason before... but I don't know a lot about the 2nd one. Also... if you get the battery checked - it may be low.

Being the driver (or former driver) of a manual transmission vehicle, I know that that would happen to me when I would either skip gears or not downshift, I'd get it checked out asap probably your transmission... but not completely sure
