I am from a foreign country and my nickname is Kris in my home country. I want to give people that same name as my nick name here in the US, but I am afraid I will be teased coz it sounds like a female name. Can I use Kris, as a male, and not be ridiculed at?

Thank you all so much for your responses. I feel much better using my real name now. All these days, I would be skeptical as to what the other person would be thinking as soon as I said what my name was. Thanks a ton. All the answers are wonderful. Now I am in a fix to figure out what I choose as the best :(

Yes, it is a unisex name, but it is common enough for both boys and girls that you should not be ridiculed. That's my opinion, you may run into some people that want to ridicule you but most probably will not---

Kris can stand for Kristopher. Kris is an awsome name. It sounds like Chris. Chris can be a guy name. So why would you be ridiculed? Only people with no social life would even bother to comment on it.

Sure, that's not a problem. That would be like Kris Kringle (our St Nicholas or Santa Claus), and is the abbreviated or "nickname" of someone named Kristopher here.

why not my dear kris!
one should be proud of his own name .(at the very least)
there are ways n means to explain thesam to the people.
one can spell n pronounce his/her name n the way he feels like.
another option is tht u can tell people that ur name is 'krish' n not kris. in the great hindu mythology its the name of lord shri krishna.
