Depends on tank size, water chemistry, and what you like. Here's a good website to look up individual species and it has suggestions for community set-ups:

Try goldfish, guppies, mollies or platys... the latter three are live bearers and mollys in particular can do fresh water or salt water or a mixture or both. Them three will probably breed soon if you have the right environment. Goldfish are a little bit harder to breed. All those species are good community fish. You can also try angel fish, but only if they are young fry, otherwise if they are grown up they might nip on some of your other fishes' tails. You can also include plecostomus or cat fish or other scavengers in your tank.

Good luck!

as the others have said, this entirely depends on tank size!
if you're a beginner, i would go with some simple fish, and research before you buy them! Male Guppys are bright and good community fish, they can be a little frail though. If you get females with the males you can find yourself inundated with babies, too many babies!

if you haven't got a tank yet, get the largest you can afford! the bigger you get the more different types of fish you can get. be wary of plecs, "algae eaters" and anything with "shark" in the name. Research before you buy any of these, they can be tankbusters (i.e grow to 1-3 feet long) or too aggressive for a community tank (see: chinese algae eaters, aka chinese face huggers)

Copperhead's right, it all depends on the tank size etc. Good fish to check out though, guppies, mollies, platies, swordtails, rasboras, some barbs(like the little cherry barbs), tetras, danios. Here's another good link, gives pictures with details about their care and needs.
