You naturally panic!! Like myself, I attended a fantastic wedding with constant flowing wine, champagne and spirits, drank from 3pm to 4am + at least 10 pints of cider for some reason the night before. Also drank about 10 bottles of red wine in 18 days according to my recycle bin Then found out that month was pregnant. Stopped the alcohol immediatley anddiscussed with my midwife if my baby will have foetal alcohol syndrome, she very much doubts this as this is caused by continual drinking throughout. She said if I had caused damage or abnormalities most miscarry. so i'm trying not to worry and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy due july 5th 2007.

Stop drinking now. This happened to a friend of mine. She was over 2 months pregnant when she found out. We usually went out drinking every weekend. She was worried to death.

Her child is now 18 years old and is one of the smartest kids in his class. He has always seemed to be very intelligent. She may have been one of the lucky ones, but her drinking before finding out she was pregnant didn't seem to affect her son in any way.

Nothing happens. My son was fine and I had been drinking for the first 8 weeks then when I found out I stopped.

You need to take care of yourself and your baby. Do not drink anymore alcohol from this point on. Everything should be just fine for your baby so don't guilt yourself over this.Start fresh today and set out a healthy lifestyle plan for you to follow to give your child the best environment possible. There are many things we can't help being exposed to (pollution, refinery fumes, etc), but work hard to limit those you can control (smoking, alcohol drinking, drug use, stress). And be sure to get as many massages as possible!

Don't panic.
It happens to alot of people as they are not sure when their last period was etc. It doesn't make you a bad person.

Start taking folic acid, go and see your doctor - now that you know you are pregnant you obviously won't be drinking anymore.

Good luck and congratulations on your baby x

Don't worry, sunshine. All this about not smoking and drinking in the early days of pregnancy is new knowledge. In the 50's-80's this knowledge was not available, and mothers-to-be went on as they did before.
Yet you didn't see mutants wandering around; and children then were probably more fit than they are in todays sterile surroundings.

Top worrying - enjoy your pregnancy. And best wishes.

You don't drink no more. If there were to be a problem due to drinking, I think it would take more than a couple to three weeks to harm the baby. Just don't be drinking anymore until after you deliver.

In my What to Expect when Expecting book it says not to worry about what you have done prior to knowing you are pregnant. If you stop drinking now the baby should be fine.

Please try not to worry - you didn't know you were pregnant so you couldn't have changed anything. The actual risks to your baby are minimal - it is normally excessive continual drinking through pregnancy that can cause harm. I didn't find out I was pregnant with my first until I was well gone 3 months and I went to the pub every weekend.
Just take care of yourself - take your folic acid and eat healthy babe and try not to stress yourself out.
Take care
