It's their choice really. But think about the child. The kid would get teased heaps in primary and high school. It could be kinda stressing for the kid. Think about it, would YOU want to be named Gaylord???

It's alittle strange but there have been some cool Gaylords like Gaylord Perry an awsome pitcher back in the 60's tell them to give him a cool middle name so he can use it as his first if he wants to when he's older

No, Gaylord is an actual french name. It probably has a meaning behind it, too. It's the parent's decision as to what the kid's name will be. If the kid doesn't like it, he can always change it legally when he's an adult.

I actually think Benedict sounds sort of cool, but I think he should definitly go by Ben. For a child, Ben is more nornal and easier to say. I think James Benedict would have been a good choice because you can call him Ben or Benedict, but he could also go by James if he doesn't like that name. I suppose the name also has the Benedict Arnold association, too...but it still sounds cool.

I personally would. And I would compile the responses here and presented to them. E.g. 85 out of 100 think it's a bad choice according to 1000 people surveyed on Yahoo Answers. That would be an objective approach to a subjective question.

Could be worse...could be Vincenzo (I'm just joking). I don't know if it's an ugly kid go ahead and let them call him Gaylord; he'll get beaten up in school anyhow.

Depends on how sensitive they are about it. I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings, but I might suggest some I liked. Or ask what the middle name was going to be. After all, if the middle name is decent the kid can always go by that. They can also change their name later.
