My son is 9 months and eat 6 jars of Stage 2 baby food a day. 2 at every meal and eat about 3-4 bottles of formula within 24 hrs. Hes not over weight at all, 19 1/2 lbs and he has been walking for 2 months so he tends so burn it off very quickly. But the reason i'm asking is that he poops between 5 and 8 times a day! i talked to his doc and she said she wasnt worried since he was a good weight, very active. My daughter, now 3 yrs, would barley eay 2- 3 jars a day. My son eats every kind of food he loves them all so i know hes getting all his fruits a veggies, it just seems so much compared to what i'm used to. Anyone have expierence with this?

haha. most people have the opposite problem, worrying about whether our little ones are getting enough. As long as the doc isn't' worried, i wouldn't worry either. I'm sure his appetite will slow down after he turns a year, then you'll wonder what's wrong with him that he could eat so much before, and almost nothing now (that's how it was with my son). Different appetites, different metabolisms, it all depends on the kid, and growth spurts play into it a lot too.

Yes, I had this problem. My daughter was very picky. she wouldn't eat, but bananas in a baby food jar. everything else was either her formula or self mashed peas or apple sauce. She was eating every food group real good but not as much. My son ate way more than that. He was hungry all the time it seemed. I also took him to the doctor and everything was fine. So I guess boys just need more. My kids were only a year and four months apart.

My daughter was a big eater as well, she would snack all day long, she is also really active, we're always outside.I got sick of buying jars of food as well, so I just started giving her what my husband and I were having for dinner only i would mash it up a bit. I didn't even use a food processor, i just mashed stuff up with a fork. Like if we were having porkchops, i would mash a bit of one up and if it was really thick add a drop of milk(it sounds gross)and it will make it a bit softer, same with potatoes, carrots anything. I ends up being the same stuff in a baby food jar, only you made it yourself. You don't have to keep buying the baby food, it was my doctor who told me she was okay to eat what we do(within reason) and she is as healthy as a horse. This is a good way to get kids to grow up liking a variety of foods as well. Good Luck

My son is a HUGE eater too! He's slim and active. The active ones are always hungry because they're always burning calories! My son ate about that much at 9 months. Stock up on food and formula because he might kick it into high gear and eat even MORE during a growth spurt! In my experience, girls are no where near as piggy as boys. But I'm sure there are some very active, very hungry little girls out there too.

This may be because your son has very fast metabolism. My son was and still is a big eater during growth spurts. As an infant he ate quite a bit and didn't gain very much weight. He is now almost 7 years old and he is average height but weighs only 44 pounds. During growth spurts that last about a week he will eat double than he normally does.

My first son ate like that and he was fine. My pediatrician just told me when he was done he would let me know and don't force it, but let the baby dictate what he need. Now my second son is the opposite. He won't sit still long enough to eat, so he is smaller, but growing and developing normally so we follow the same rule. I don't let him eat junk, but I let him decide when he is done. Some days he eats like there is no tomorrow. Some days he picks. And my pediatrician told me the same thing with him that he did my older son.

They don't worry too much about being overweight until they are like 2. And you shouldn't have to worry then as long as you are careful about what you feed him.

Good Luck

If the doctor said there isn't an issue you should go with that.

I'm guessing if he's 19 lbs and the doctor said he is at a good weight he is probably a big-framed/tall baby - and bigger-framed babies do eat more. If he's eating that many vegetables it would explain some of why he's doing "mucks" so often.

That sure does seem like a lot of food, but since he is healthy and not overweight it seems to be okay. He is so active, it probably takes a lot of food for him.
I would hate to see your grocery bill for baby food! Ha!

I have 4 kiddos and 2 of mine ate like that. They were never overweight and have always been pretty healthy. I think that the amount he is eating is normal for him and wouldn't worry. Just keep doing what you are doing (offering healthy variety!)

i dont understand why people dont think they can feed their babys what they eat! 3 yrs old? she should be eating the same food you eat at not baby food. my son is one yr and eats almost everything i make. he loves green beans, pop- tarts, eggs, ham, chicken, rice, beans, mashed potatos, if its not soft just cut it up for them
