I personaly think its Blue Ray because it is better in every way ,,, it holds more memory ( Blue ray : 50gig. HD dvd : 30Gig) and Blue Ray has better quality than HD dvd ( Blue Ray has 1080p while HD dvd has 1080i )

And if your into video games Ps3 costs 5 or 600$ and it has a Blue Ray player included while Xbox 360 costs 5 or 600$ (depends what version you have) with the HD dvd player ... so you
pay the same price for something for different quality of the imaje.
Once again ps3 is a better deal

I'm going to say HD-DVD, the majority of consumers are NOT tech savvy. This has me thinking that the average Joe who just bought his "HD" TV will automatically look at the HD-DVD and assume that, this format works well with his equipment. You need to step back and try to think like the average consumer. This isn't about features or who has industry leverage, this is your mom or dad going to best buy and getting something based on buzz and name recognition. As far as your PS3 idea, see the link I included about PS3 rumors (Maybe rumors maybe not).

HD-DVD could win the battle. While the quality may be SLIGHTLY inferior to blu-ray (experts barely saw the quality difference between 1080i and 1080p), it has many advantages. To buy the stand-alone HD-DVD player compared to the stand-alone blu-ray disc player is half the price.
Many people thought that the HD-DVD player add-on for xbox 360 would be a failure. If it is such a failure, why is it always STILL sold out? They are grabbed instantly on the Best Buy website.
Sony PS3 also was disappointing, because they released so few consoles, that both the XBOX 360 and the Wii beat it with it's initial release - a big blow to blu-ray.
I recently read an article by CNET (a reputable organization) that said that there is really just a slim chance that blu-ray can win.
What would be nice is if they both won---that way everyone is happy. This is possible, Warner Bros is making a "multi-function disc" that will work on DVD, HDDVD, and blu-ray.

Right now this is a really difficult question to answer because of the lack of blu-ray and HD-DVD players available and the lack of people upgrading presently (not to mention the cost of each). Sony doesn't have the greatest history with trying to instigate new forms of media (i.e. the minidisc, the PSP's discs) but I've heard the Apple computers is backing blu-ray and considering their recent boom in the entertainment aspect of computing (mostly audio but moving into video with iTunes and the iPod) it's looking good. The PS3 supports blu-ray also (duh, it's produced by Sony) but the XBOX 360 supports HD-DVD only with the add on drive suggesting the Microsoft thinks that HD-DVD is the future. Perhaps Vista will support burning to HD-DVDs initially? Another thing to remember is that the better media type historically hasn't always won out. I'd suggest holding back on purchasing either for a little while and see how it plays out.

i wouldnt say the ps3 is a better deal...
i think they are equally awesome

i think blue ray might not stay on the market too long because of the need of a system to play it

on the other hand microsoft is coming out with a new windows that can play HD dvds and there are other cheaper players

but hey, if u have a PS3 go for blue ray beause the system and the movies are awesome quality

but again... why in the hell do you need all that memory anyways?!
its the quality that counts.

have fun it sounds like you have a ps3 right now! lucky!

I HAVE A PS3 AND A 360 AND A NEW 61IN HD TV THE PS3 IS OK BUT UNLESS U LOVE MOVIES THAT MUCH IN BLU RAY THEN I WOULD WAIT FOR A LOW PRICE PLAYER CUZ PS3 REALLY ONLY HAS THE BLU-RAY GOING FOR IT IM MEAN HALF THE PPL THAT GOT IT HAD TO GET NEW HD TV'S CUZ IT'S NOT EVEN COMPATIBLE WITH HALF THE ONE'S OUT AND ITS NOT MADE OUT TO WHAT IT'S SURPOSED TO BE I MEAN AT LEAST GET WAT U PAY FOR SORRY I WONDERED UM BACK TO THE QUESTION.

BLU-RAY -VERY GOOD -BUT LESS ON THE SHELF IN STORES THEN HDDVD

HDDVD-VERY GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD BUT WAY MORE IN CONSUMERS HANDS I MEAN LOOK AT VHS IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR PPL TO REALLY CARE ABOUT DVD FOR RIGHT NOW I SAY HDDVD WILL RULE FOR A WHILE TILL LOW PRICED PLAYERS COME OUT CUZ PS3 AINT CUTING IT. HAVE A GOOD ONE.

PS. PS3 HAS HELLA PROBLEMS I NEVER HAD A THING WRONG WITH THE 360.IF U WANT A BLU-RAY THEN GET PS3 CUZ THATS ALL UR PAYING FOR .360 IS BETTER IN ALL WAYS EXCEPT BLU-RAY.

HD DVD will remain on the market because Sony has disallowed the production of porno on any blue-ray disc. Porno being on VHS was the decisive factor in the VHS versus Betamax war and it will be again in the HD DVD versus Blue-ray war.

I think Blu-ray will because Sony has pretty good leverage at this point. And the 360 is $4-500 dollars so its a bit cheaper but i still see your point.

HD-DVD is smaller in capacity, but guess who is selling the most???

That's right, HD-DVD is winning the format war.

Also, the entire porn industry supports HD-DVD over Blu-Ray, which is just like what happened when it was VHS versus Betamax. Guess who won that format war?????

VHS.

Better get a HD-DVD.......

Beta max was also a superior technology over VHS, yet never survived. PC drives are now emerging that will play both formats. I say game on a PC. Current video card technology already surpasses any console.
