Remember that moving values across the '=' sign changes positive to negative and negative to positive!
Now, move 9x to the left side: and you have 10X (+9X by -1= negative 9X) do the same for negative 1/4 to the right side. We now have: 10X - 9X = 3/8 + 1/4
Next, you need to make the divisor or denominator (the /8 and the /4) the same numeric value. So multiply the 1/4 by two on top and bottom to get 2/8's. Let's now calculate 10X -9X --> 1X or X:
Writing the results: X = 3/8 + 2/8= 5/8
X=5/8

Please remember to be very careful to copy the signs correctly when you write a problem in your notebook. Also, check each line of the solution to make sure that your plus and minus signs have been accurately copied. Many mistakes happen there. Most of mine do.

Solve,

10x - 1/4 = 9x + 3/8

Substract 9x from both sides,

10x - (9x) - 1/4 = 9x - (9x) + 3/8

x - 1/4 = 3/8

Add 1/4 to both sides,

x + (1/4) - 1/4 = 3/8 + (1/4)

x = 3/8 + 1/4

x = 5/8

10x - 1/4 = 9x + 3/8. Simply subract 9 from 10 to get x. This is easy. Then get the common denominator of 1/4 and 3/8. This should be -2/8 on the left and the same 3/8 on the right. Add the left to the right to get 5/8. With only x on your left, this equates to x = 5/8

10x - 1/4=9x + 3/8 add 1/4 to each side
10x=9x+3/8+1/4 subtract 9x from each side
x=3/8+1/4 find common denomonator
x=3/8+2/8=5/8
x=5/8

Subtract 9x from both sides to get:

x - 1/4 = 3/8

Then add 1/4 to both sides to get:

x = 3/8 + 1/4 = 3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8

Subtract 9x from the two facet of the equation to get: x -a million/4 = 3/8 Now upload a million/4 to the two facet of the equation to get: x = 3/8 + a million/4 Now to function those we ought to make the situation decrease than the line an identical. a million/4 is two/8. So x = 3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8

10x - (1/4) = 9x + (3/8)

first multiply everything by 8 to get rid of the fractions

80x - 2 = 72x + 3
8x = 5
x = (5/8)

ANS : (5/8) or .625

They are both the same value, just one is in fraction form and the other is in decimal form.

isolate for x
10x - 1/4 = 9x + 3/8
10x - 9x = 3/8 + 1/4
x = 3/8 + 1/4

find the LCD of the denominators to solve the rational values
LCD(8,4) = 8
x = 3/8 + (1*2)/(4*2)
x = 3/8 + 2/8
x = 5/8

10x - (1/4) = 9x + (3/8)

To get rid of all fractions, I'm going to multiply both sides by 8.

8[10x - (1/4)] = 8[9x + (3/8)]

Expanding both sides should eliminate ALL fractions.

80x - 2 = 72x + 3

Now, solve as usual.

8x = 5
x = 5/8
