Instead of the nail growin curving down it curls up. i file it down all the time but it just seems to want to grow upwards. And everytime i get my nails all nice even length just past the skin it has to split ! from the top of the nail to the end of the little white tip bit. it suckss! i drink milk and exercise regulalry and eat good i dont know whats wrong!

First of all, you should never file down the sides of your nails. This weakens them and could cause the breaks you mentioned.

Secondly, using a metal nail file and a sawing motion to shape the nails can be damaging. An emery board gives a much smoother edge and doesn't split the nail bed. And instead of a back and forth motion, it's better to file in one direction only.

If you're finding your nails weak, I also suggest you invest in a nail strengthener that you paint on. You can get some really effective formulations and even just the coating can help keep the nail strong.

Also, my grandmother always told me to push back my cuticles gently with another finger nail and to drum my nails on a hand surface to make them tougher.
