The fish are legally allowed to be imported (they arent on any banned list). But how do i actually go about the whole process?
I know i have to get a licence(but i dont know where from)
I know i need a health certificate (again - where from)
Would i take them to an airport? where would i pick them up from?
Any help would be appreciated. I'll be leaving from Houston Texas, and picking them up as close to South Wales as possible.

Sorry i forgot to mention - The fish are my own pets. Ive had them for 2+ years and dont want to part with them. I realise i could buy these fish in the Uk, but really want to keep my pets.

I understand the problem of not wanting to part with your pets, but would it be worth risking their health over it? I realise you really care for them to go through so much trouble to check into the matter, so effort and money are prob not an issue but the stress on your fish could very well kill them or send them into shock, I don't know whether you thought about that aspect or not. I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question but just wanted to make sure you know the risks as well.
Good luck

The process you need is known as 'smuggling' :-) Now you know why goods are cheaper in USA than in UK .. by the time Importers have paid VAT and Import Duty, $100 becomes £100 ... It's "Rip Off Britain" all right = but it's our own Government that's doing the ripping off :-) NB. A lot of sellers on eBay make their customers pay ... (often small packages worth less than about £35 are allowed through w/o duty..)

personaly, i think importing is a bad idea because of all the motion the fish can end up dead. But if its somthing you really want to do then if you find a USA site that sells the fish, it should ask where to send it, and just fill out the form, if not that, then go to a fish store near you, and ask them if they can order one, and if they can, how much it will cost.
Good Luck!

Apply a licence from DEFRA and all information, ask the seller to pack them up and you take them to the airport, pay the fare and you pick them up here in England at the airport.

IMO it would be better to give the fish to someone you trust to care for them properly rather than try to bring them to the UK.
You would have to contact DEFRA for a license & they would have to be shipped, bagged in an insulated box, to London.
You would have to pick them up at the airport once they cleared customs.
There is no door to door service like can be arranged for dogs.
It is probably easier to contact OATA http://www.ornamentalfish.org/ as at least one of the directors runs a fish import/wholesale business.
What fish do you have?

your best bet is to contact the local game and fish department for your county in TX. They should be able to direct you on the legalites involved and what documentation you'll need. As far as fining an actually shipper, try the phone book and maybe call one and see if they can recommend....or do a search on google for 'pet shipping'. good luck.
