Hello -

I am writing an essay for a Graduate School Application, and the prompt says that it should be at least 200 words. How long do you think it should be in the end? I don't want it to be a full page and have them not even want to read it all. On the flipside, I don't want to write 200-300 words and have them think I couldn't be bothered to write a decent essay. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I direct a graduate program in the humanities, and routinely receive application essays that run from 3-5 pages. We always read the whole thing. :)

Our program's guideline is a 250 word (1 page) minimum.

I think that all of my essays were between 1 and a half and 2 and a half pages double spaced. Good luck, writting the essays was definitly the worst part of the application process for me.

It shouldn't be longer than two pages. You should try to fill up an entire page.
