A rain gutter on a house is formed from a 27 inch piece of metal turned up at a right angle at the end. At what depth would the gutter have to be to have a cross sectional area of 49 square inches?

First of all I think guttering is measured in linear feet or inches....Having just had new guttering put on I was charged for linear feet not square feet.
The guttering comes in 10 ft sections, unless it is seamless. So going by the 10 ft section it would have to be ........3.5 in wide x 5 = you drop every 10 feet by 1/4 " 5/4=1 1/4 "

7 inches? 7x7 = 49 square inches
