My daughter faced the same dilemma. She ended up going to a dance studio that offers tumbling. That way she is keeping up on some of the skills she's learned and experiencing dance at the same time. She's been doing this for two years, the dancing helps her gymnastics and the gymnastics helps her dance. Next year, she will be deciding whether she's going to get serious with gymnastics again, pursue a stricter dance curriculum, or continue what she's in right now just for fun. It's left her options open and let her experience something new without having to give up the old.

Which one do you like more?
And I've always been told that you can be a gymnast taking ballet, but never a ballerina taking gymnastics. They focus on different skills and muscle groups. So if you do switch, watch out because it's going to be a change. Yes, some of your skills from gymnastics will come in handy, but it's a whole heck of a lot different. Just keep the whole thing in mind while choosing. Either stay in gymnastics and do ballet on the side or do ballet and forget about gymnastics.

Honey, if you do gymnastics for 4 years why would you leave it? Do you think you might love to dance? All you women want to dance, and we will, in our time. If you want to really be a dancer(ballet, modern) you must love and give all of your love to it. Isn't gymnastics the same? But one thing about dancers, they are beautiful, and the purpose: they connect the earth with the sky. Gymnastics is athletic, beautifully talented, but dance is the aesthetic realm. can you create the aesthetic realm? YES! with the right teacher, yes. I have worked as a dance teacher, it will enhance all that you do, ever.

If you want gymnastics to be your serious career - then don't give it up now, it will be hard to come back and catch up. If you are doing it for fun and fitness - then maybe set it aside for a year, try dancing for a year and then decide. Maybe you'll come back to gymnastics, maybe you'll stick wit dancing. I did both, gave up gymnastics, continued with dancing.

In dance competitions, it's the girls with the tumbling skills that win anymore.
If you enjoy both, do dance. You will be able to use your tumbling skills as you progress in dance. The tumbling skills will also help you advance faster in dance.
With gymnastics, you only use dancing skills on the floor routine.
Good luck and have FUN!

Either...I mean you can do dancing in gymnastics (rythmic) or gymnastics when you dance (flips and your flexible) so you'll still be doing what you like =)... I would stick with dancing though, i've never been one to do flips and all that....
