The companies: Scourge on society
The worker bees: Just someone trying to make a living

The people who do the calling themselves, are just trying to make a living. As a matter of fact, a lot of people in that field don't care for that kind of job at all but it tends to pay a little more than your typical minimum-wage job.

However, I would say that the companies who gather the information, train the employees to push, and especially fund-raising telemarketing firms who take over 75% of the donations as profit and then tell the customers that "Unfortunately, because there are not enough volunteers to gather the funds necessary, we have been hired to raise the funds" tend to be the scourge.

Definitely people trying to make a living...I know...been there, done that...it sucks..I never take it out on telemarketers, and I try to give them respect by simply saying "I don't want to be rude, and I'll save you the time...I'm not interested"...if they continue, I tell them that I REALLY don't want to be rude but if they can't say good bye, I'll just hang up. And if they don't, I do. But I gave them ample warning...I also assure them I've been there and I know what tactics they're supposed to enforce. At least it's better than simply hanging up on them. And I always try to tell them to have a nice day. Although, I have no proof of this, but with trends going the way they are, people using the "do not call" list and the "block caller" list, plus the amount of cell phone only users...I think telemarketers will be out of business and that will be one less worry. It won't pay for the businesses to hire people with no more than they will have to connect to.

It's the people that hire them to call and bug you that are a scourge. The actual people who call are just doing what they are paid to do.

Just some poor shmuck trying to make a living. I'd rather ignore them with my caller Id and answering machine, than to have them robbing my house for a living.

They're just trying to make a living - I'm always very polite with them - I say "Sorry, I'm not interested, have a nice day!" and then I hang up.

people making a living by being a giant pain in the @ss!!!!

Cold calling is a hazard of our society, I really wish it was banned, it would put thousands of people in india out of work though.

Why is it that they always call at the most inconvient times?
