Ok I don't use tampons, I won't. For swim class I HAVE TO SWIM TOMORROW. But I'm just starting my period. We're only in the pool for about 12 minutes. We have to wear t-shirts AND SHORTS over our 2 piece. Sooo can I just wear a pad since its not going to show bulk? or will it unstick and blood get everywhere?

You could try...but I imagine if you're leaking, it's going to show...I've never tried it. I can't imagine they wouldn't let you out of class...They can't force you to use a tampon.

You could see if you can find an adult swim diaper like they use for babies....They're generally just a vinyl underwear that could go over your underwear...and probably would not show under shorts.

Also, the person who says you're period stops in water is incorrect. It comes when it comes and water isn't going to stop it! It just comes in waves...So if you're lucky enough not to have a "wave" while you're in the water, then great. You usually can feel when it's starting to come though.

Please don't! The idea that your flow stops in the water is just a myth. As a very experienced swimmer, I can tell you that you will still bleed. As a lifeguard I can tell you that if you bleed into the pool, and someone sees it, the entire pool will have to be evacuated and chemicals will have to be put in the pool (at the very least). It is unsanitary and will be very embarrassing if someone sees. Personally, I would bite the bullet and learn how to use a tampon. They really are so much better. If you just can't, speak with someone about it. They can't make you use a tampon, and I am sure for occupational health reasons they won't make you go in without one.

no no no . That is bad . I would just put a tampon in for that class then change back to a pad after wards . If you don't want to do that then i would just tell your teacher you will have to sit out . If you wear a pad all your stuff is still going to leak into the pool .

Bad idea!

Bite the bullet and use a tampon.

I hate them too, but they are VERY convenient at times for peace of mind. I'd be lucky to have used a dozen and I'm 30 years old!

A pad will absorb all the water and you may end up with blood diluted in water running down your legs when you get out.

Go on! You can do it! Just read the instructions and take your time. Put a bit of vaseline on the tip if it helps. Squatting is best and aim for the base of your spine, not your belly!

Good luck!!!

The only thing you have to do is die.
You don't HAVE to swim.

Explain to your teacher, "Sir/ma'am, I am currently bleeding out of my lower cavity. I am allergic to tampons. If you like the pool being contaminated with my blood, I will swim. If not, then I won't,"

I've gone swimming with a pad before. It is uncomfortable and when you get out, all the blood comes pouring down your leg and everything.

Eww...no, not a good thing. Tell your teacher/coach about your period, and surely you can be excused. If not take your case to the school nurse. You shouldn't have to pariticipate if you're on your period and don't use tampons.
Its not sanitary to be in the pool without internal protection.
And no your period won't stop just because you get in the water.

I would not wear a pad in the water. The water will be absorbed into the pad and will not leave the blood anywhere else to go except in the water. Tell the instructor about your situation and see what he or she says.

Your pad will absorb a ton of water and be very uncomfortable.

And no matter what anyone else has posted, your period does not stop while in the water. Its recommended to use tampons while swimming for hygiene purposes. If you wont use them, you shouldnt swim.

Good luck!

Tell your teacher, by law they cannot knowingly allow blood pathogens in the pool for other students to come in contact with. Good luck. PS You can make up the class later.

That won't work, Chica, because you will still bleed into the water. Very messy and unsanitary.

Either bring a note from your mom explaining the situation or stay home.
