I am just curious as to what other people come up with. I am in an Argument and Debate class in college, and we have to do this huge report on the "The Patriot Act". Any imput would help out a lot. Thanks.

The Patriot Act was passed in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and has a number of provisions which streamline the way the military, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement share and collect information. There is a rather large debate about the possibility of some parts of this act being in violation of people's civil rights and that some parts may provide the executive branch of our government with an unconstitutional amount of power. I would suggest to look up the basics first and then some of the arguement for and against this act.

It was enacted as a result of the events of September 11, 2001. Alot of people believe that the act gives the national government power's that were denied it, or not given it in the constitution. Such as warrant less wiretaps, and several other items used for surveillance.

The Patriot Act allows for, among many other things, the indefinite imprisonment of anybody suspected of terrorism, without charges being filed. Lifelong U.S. citizens, permanent residents, Visa holders, tourists, and people just passing through.
