No, but there are times when I'd like to go back to my youth and have another shot at things. I've read where even if we had the self-knowledge of ourselves and had the opportunity to do it all over again that we'd still make the same mistakes. So, I'll opt for staying where I am and "finishing the race," to borrow the analogy of the Apostle Paul.

That's ridiculous! I'm 81 and don't think that is old. Age has two components. One is your chronological age, the other, and more important is your perceived age. Within physical limits, no matter what your actual age, if you think you are old, you are old. I've taught people who were 60 how to use computers and were told me they were too old to learn. Your mental attitude has a great deal to do with your 'age'.

I am a nurse and I run a dementia ward. We deal with alzheimers, picks dementia, parkinsons, stroke related dementia, etc. I see first hand, not only what aging does to the body, but the effects on the mind. I am not afraid to grow old but I do have a healthy fear of the ramifications of an aging body and mind.

I'm more afraid that they will find the secret to longevity and the Federal government will keep raising the age to retire and collect social security. Can you imagine working everyday for the rest of your life if people lived to be 130, and the retirement age was 120?

YES.
But I try not to think about.
I consider it an irrational fear.
I worry about what kind of painful sicknesses I'll get in old age and I'll be old, poor, and alone and it creeps me OUT.
Maybe that's not such an irrational fear.
And the Lexapro made me MUCH more anxious.

To be afraid of getting old is like being afraid of living. Life has all it's stages and getting old is apart of it. Since I love life, getting old isn't something that frightens me.
