The greatest icon of the 20th Century in my view is the 40th President of the United States of America Ronald Reagan. He help to end the cold war, bring communism to an end in Western Europe, and he help unite Germany together. Reagan was a public servant who actually remembered to serve the public with passion and showed great compassion and care to people all over the United States and the World. Because of Ronald Reagan, I know that if I ever do get married and have children, my future children will not have to live in the fear of communism or a divided Europe because President Reagan made a difference to make the world a better place to live in.

Yourself !

Just say to your self:

I am unique in this universe. I am the one who is responsible for what happens to me as well as the society .

If future comes one day at a time ,everybody can focus a little bit and create a small impact today.

I feel heroes have done there part, but the "greatest icon" is the common man who is optimizing the society today . Because "today" is the only day which is happening.

Albert Einstein by a light year. He completely changed our understanding of the universe and was a great humanitarian besides.

The hardest decision he ever made was to write to President Roosevelt urging the U.S. to develop an atomic bomb before Hitler did, knowing the potential threat to the survival of civilization even if we did win that war.

Icon generally means non political. So in that in mind, it would be a tie between Marilyn Monroe and Diana, Princess of Wales. Both were beautiful, both died young and tragically, we would never see either grow old, and both had the ability to capture the interest and imagination of millions, and in the case of Diana, Princess of Wales maybe a billion or more people. Forever people will say "What if they had lived" and we are left to wonder just what would they have done and what would have become of them.

John D. Rockefeller because of the Rockefeller Foundation and all the money that he provided for scientific research. The work of many of the greatest chemists, physicists, and biologists in the world would not have been possible without the financial support of Rockefeller.

Martin Luther King, you could say Malcolm X but MLK died for his beliefs in a diplomatic resolution to southern racism.

Note: how is gay rights continuing, gays have rights that normal people have. Dont tell me marriage rights, marriage is that of a man and woman.

marriage is the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.

I have to agree with Paul L Diana Princess Of Wales she was loved by everyone not just because she was beautiful and royalty but because she was a humanitarian on a level not reached by many others, she did what her heart led her to do and comfort the people that she saw suffering and stood up for causes that she believed in. her death is on the same level as JFK's, i remember vividly where I was who I was with and who told me of her untimely death.
