When you skydive, exactly when do you pull out the parachute? Do you pull it immeadiately, or is there a certain altitude or time to do it? I'm really worried about when to exactly pull the parachute, and I would like to know.

It depends. When I was a student in classes to get my certification (Accelerated Freefall- AFF at Gold Coast- http://www.goldcoastskydivers.com ), I pulled at 5500 feet.... (we jump out at 14,000 feet). Now, since I have a little bit more experience under my belt, I am more comfortable pulling at a lower altitude.... I pull at 4000 feet now, and will probably in the next 60 jumps or so get down to 3500.

Once you are a certified skydiver, it's all about your comfort/ experience level. As a student, I can't imagine any dropzones in the country letting their students below the 5500-6000 range.

Also, there is another option: a hop and pop. At my dropzone, the regular exit altitude is 14000 feet..... at a hop and pop, you exit the plane at 5000 feet, have a few seconds of freefall, then pull (usually between 3000 and 4000 feet).

Blue skies!

I'm not sure exactly when, but if you've never skydived before, you won't have anything to worry about... It's illegal for you to pull your own cord until you get experience. You will go tandem (with someone else who will pull the string), or you will be on a static line, which means your chute will open automatically.

take skydiving classes! most places require you to take them before you actually jump out of a real plane.
