I realize that that some welding will be needed to be done so that the engine can be mounted on the frame but is this possible, ive been told it is. The thing of it is, is that the engine I have now, a 472 V8 that it was made with is running but has a bad knock and a terrible noise, and a rebuild will cost close to $4000 so I need to find a smaller engine that will drive well and work for the car while i work on it. And not sure if I will need a different transmission if i get a different engine too.

If you opt to swap out for ANY Chevy engine you will need to get a transmission as well. Both the Chevy BIG-block and SMALL-block V8s use a different and exclusive to Chevy only bellhousing bolt pattern. All other GM engines use the the "BOP" (Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac) bellhousing bolt pattern. You might want to consider going with a BIG-block 396-427-454 engine for your application, due to the weight and size of your ride. I don't think a 350 SMALL-block will be enough to move your 5000 lbs. boat.

I don't think a 472 build will cost quite that much for a quality stock rebuild. Installing a 350 sbc won't be too easy to un-do when you want to swap back to the caddy powerplant.

The caddy uses the BOP bellhousing, which doesnt fit the chevy. So you will need another tranny. Swapping all this stuff around will cost money and take away from the 472 fund. You've got motor and tranny mounts to contend with, exhaust system, driveshaft length, fuel pedal linkage, front suspension issues (350 is lighter and car will sit funny).... Not to mention finding a good 350 combo to use.

Find another cadzilla motor to use, or rebuild yours. Half-assing a 350 swap will ruin the car. Doing a 350 swap right will cost as much as the 472 build.

Look at the weight of that 3000GT. And front wheel drive sucks. all wheel drive VR better even more weight. Nissan question it is possable to install a V-8 in a 240sx. You have to expect about 6 months of fitting removing refitting making a new instrument cluster. About 2 to 3 weeks just to modify the original cars wiring. I own a 2006 Pontiac GTO 6 speed with 6.0 liter V-8. Factory warranty very fast. And everything works. Hot rods like you are thinking about some end up garage projects that never end so don't start unless you really want to spend lots of money and see the project to the end. Then you will find out the rear axle cannot take more than 200 hp.

The problem is well a 472 is a caddy engine and 350 is a chevy they do not have the same bolt pattern and you will need to swap tranny first it will fit as far as all that goes. good luck!

My husband is pretty sure it will bolt up with the transmission but it won't have the power it used to have.

My note: why don't you just replace it with stock?
