Anger often leads to action when politics is concerned. Unfortunately, the inspired action typically takes place in the jaw and vocal cords where little practical, physical achievement ever occurs.
The idea that people become educated because of political activism is an iffy proposition. I do think information (often slanted) is "dug up" and distributed by opposition spokes(wo)men. This information is then regurgitated by the masses ... ad naseum.
Is this education?
I learned the periodic table in college ... and immediately forgot the majority of it as soon as the final exam was over. I would never consider myself well educated in chemistry, much less the periodic table.
I do believe people become more aware of what is happening when they are spurred by actions they consider wrong. I'm not convinced, however, true education is achieved.

I knew how the government operated when we had Carter as President, a bad administration, in my opinion, as well as when we had Clinton in office as well. The primary problem is that people who only want to whine and complain never seem to be able to get it in their heads the we the people should be the ones who influence the government. The president has LIMITED authority. The real power is in the Legislative branch. How many of the whiners have been writing to their Legislative branch representatives? Apparently not very many, they'd rather whine and toss "rocks" at the President.

I think you have a point. American citizens have indeed become much more educated under the Bush administration. That is why the Democrats were voted into the Majority in both houses in November.
And notice: Those who ARE happy with the current administration haven't educated themselves at all. They just continue to watch Faux (Fox) News and listen to Rush "Falafel" Limbaugh and their (mostly) wealthy fundamentalist megaevangelists, getting fed the same propaganda over and over. They believe them unquestioningly because it just reinfoces with what they already believe rather than presenting alternative viewpoints or new ideas.
ADDED: I should have said, "most" of those who are happy with the current administration...

Even so, inspiration can't fund education. Conservatives would not mind if Bush destroys the middle class. Educated, prosperous people are more independent people and that makes Conservatives uncomfortable; Conservatives crave social stability.
One entry found for conservatism.
b : a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change

Information and observation are key elements in discerning the bad from the good in government politics and events... education is paramount to accomplish this, yes this is a benefit and a side effect as well...

you're assuming that people are actually educating themselves instead of parroting things they hear their party leaders say.
i think you have a point, yes. but keep in mind, what i just said.
ETA: and to clarify- i am more interested and learning more about politics than ever, but i suspect that has more to do with 9-11 than anything else. (i don't necessarily see the Bush Admin as being all that bad. although i don't think it's perfect, either.)

Unfortunately over 3,000 Americans didn't get through the whole syllabus in Iraq. Not understanding politics has gotten some people killed.

Considering the fact that most of the problems we face are due to the lousy acts and non-acts of an incredibly inept Congress, I would have to say we can add "Education" to the growing list of complaints!

Americans should always want to educate themselves regardless of whether they like their current President or not. That is unless "they are too damn lazy'!
