Since it is recommended to stop formula when they are twelve months, I don't see a problem with it...A friend of mine stopped giving formula at eleven months because her son didn't really like the formula. So, I think you can start introducing it to him now, without any problems, but try to keep him on the formula also until he is supposed to be, if he continues to take it.

Most mothers try to decrease the amount of formula after 12 months. Parenting magazines recommend homogenized milk until the age of two once breast milk and formula are no longer a part of the diet. My son is now 18 months old and around 11-12 months I switched him to whole milk because he wasn't very fond of formula anymore. My public health nurse said that it was fine, and most importantly to listen to your baby and your own instincts when making decisions concerning the nutrition or any other aspect of your child's development.

There is no shortage of evidence against giving pasteurized milk to anyone at any age. Raw milk on the other hand is a bona fide health food for most people, it's tough to find though.

Whole milk will NOT hurt your son; if he was allergic to cow's milk you would know it from the cow's milk-based formula. Like you said, though, he needs to still be having formula for it's added nutrition and iron until he's one.

I got the go ahead from my pediatrician to slooowly start weaning my children from formula around 10 months. Shortly after they were a year old, they were completely off formula. Of course, I made sure there were plenty of good nutritious foods for them to eat at this time and they were already drinking other things as well, including juices (even prune juice) and even unsweetened decaffeinated iced tea. My oldest daughter never ate baby food, instead we fed her cream of wheat instead of baby cereal and mashed up vegetables and pasta that I cooked and baked potatoes. She never would eat the baby food as much as I tried. My second daughter however was all about the baby food but didn't like formula from the time she was 9 months old. It was hard to keep her drinking it. I never could breastfeed them (my mild never produced) so we did what we could!

You should really check with his pediatrician.
Our pediatrician told us not to start serving milk until our baby was at least 12 months old.

You should wait until your baby is at least 1 year to introduce whole milk to him. it should be a gradual phase too..That would be a very harsh thing on his little ststem to have a whole cup of milk right away!..Talk to yuor Dr about how to gradually introduce milk to your baby..when he is one.
