My husband and I are thinking about moving, uprooting our family to either Greenville, Texas or somewhere in Kentucky. Does anyone know what it is like in either state. I was wondering job wise and rental or buying house wise. I am very nervous about the move so I want to find out as much as possible.

Well, one thing you'll want to consider is a Cost-of-Living Comparison. This chart: http://www.mysideoftheinternet.com/peaches/col.jpg shows data released by the gov't. It looks like Texas and Kentucky are both cheaper than Pennsylvania. Do you (or your husband) have a job that's easy to transfer? If your income would stay roughly the same, then you'll find the move to be a (at least slight) benefit in your financial status.

I lived in Texas for nearly 20 years and the one thing I caution you about is if you've lived up north your entire life, your first summer in Texas will be BRUTAL. Just as folks from the deep south struggle with the cold winters to the north, people used to cooler weather are often overwhelmed by the triple digits heat index.

That said, I think Texas is a great state with some of the friendliest people I've ever met.

i do a lot of fishing down near greenville and think that town is pretty nice. in greenville you're about an hour east of dallas so you'll have plenty of job opportunities i would think, especially if you don't mind commuting. of course, being from PA you might take some time adjusting to the heat as it is insanely hot in north texas in the summer but all in all i think texas is great and would never discourage anyone from living near dallas. i don't know so much about kentucky but you would have to think the job market in greenville (dallas) is much better than kentucky.

Just remember, once you move to a cheaper place, you can't go back to the more expensive place very easily, because the money you make is relative to the area.

Also, you can't sit on the lawn and read a newspaper. Ask a Texan what I'm talking about.

Yee Haw!

greenville is pretty.

well its hot most of the time but as of now cold.

renting and buying a house is very good. but i suggest that you buy a house so that way the money you pay is not wasted money.

real estate is going up so if you do plan to sell your house and move here you can make quite a profit.
