I have not read that book since High School. It was a requirement. I think in Chapter 2 & 3 he ask for advice from people, then questions himself before he goes insane.

I hated Catcher in the Rye...Holden is a complete jackass, perhaps my least fav literary character ever, right up there with Bob Ewell. Maybe the author meant to create a whiny brat and if so, he did a good job. I don't even WANT to get to know Holden and when I run into real life people like that, I avoid their negative energy at all costs.

I read it. I liked it, tho I completely understand anyone who found Holden an unlikeable character.
As an aside, JD Salinger (the book's feral, reclusive author who has since and refused to write another word) has a son Matt, who was Captain America in the really, really bad 1991 film.

Chapter 2: Mr. Spencer speaks to Holden for a while, trying to convince him not to give up on himself.
Chapter 3: Holden speaks about his roomie Ackley, who is described as being pretty nasty.
PS: I haven't read the book in six months... so....

it is a VERY good book, and definitely worth reading...the language is not difficult, although there are some heavy ideas within the book...you should just read it yourself! You probably spent more time looking at yahoo answers than you would just reading the two chapters required.
