Eragon is a wonderful book written by a very intelligent 15 year old graduated homeschool student Christopher Paolini. I LOVED that book and Eldest. I cannot wait for the last one. I am absolutely obsessed! It is right up there with Harry Potter!

Eragon is a pretty good book. I really enjoyed it a few years ago and was obsessed with reading all the series but... Now, a bit later I find it less entrancing than the first time I read it. It is definitely worth the read, all the holds are probably because of the movie bringing the book into the limelight. If you've seen the movie then reading the book is a good idea - movies always warp the entire storyline and are often completely disappointing in comparison to the books.

I hope you enjoy it. Once you've read it though you'll definitely being wanting to read Eldest and will join the many people eagerly awaiting the third book!

Eragon is a great book, if you like adventure, suspense, humor, excitement, and a bit of romance. There is a little of everything in this book and is definately worth the trouble. If you really do get into the series i suggest buying the second and being aware of when the 3rd comes out... I know i am! ;>)

I've read widely among the fantasy that is out there currently, as well as having read a great deal of classic literature and fantasy, and I can say without any doubt that Eragon is one of the worst fantasy books I've read to date.

While some will tell you (very, very emphatically) that Paolini was fifteen when he wrote the book, this is only partially true. He was fifteen when he began to write the book, and nineteen when his family's publishing company first put it into print.

The book's most annoying problem is that it is essentially one giant cliche. With a plot eerily reminiscent of Star Wars and elements "inspired by" (ie plagiarized from) Lord of the Rings, Anne McCaffrey's Pern series, Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea books, and a host of other places, reading Eragon feels strangely familiar, yet despite the brilliant sources he "borrowed" from, Paolini still doesn't manage to write a decent story.

The prose is stilted, and Paolini uses many, many large words incorrectly, lacking an understanding of their nuances. He also has the annoying habit of throwing random storylines into the book and then abandoning them a chapter later. His characters are cardboard and unbelievable because Paolini simply doesn't have the life experience to understand anything about human psychology, and most of the events detailed are completely and utterly unrealistic, even for a fantasy novel. Also, Eragon is an idealized version of who Paolini wants to be, and so is written as the perfect hero, with no humanizing flaws.

Essentially, if this is your first fantasy novel you'll likely enjoy some parts of it. However, as you go on to read works by the masters of fantasy, you'll quickly realize that Eragon is a weak imitation of them.

Eragon is a good book, i think it's worth a read, you'll also need to get Eldest

but i wouldn't put it up to the standard of Robin Hobb and Raymond E. Feist writings

Eragon has been my favourite book since it came out and I also really love it's sequel Eldest...I'm not too keen on the movie though, I think that they spoiled it...

My daughter loves it and has read it three time. I have started it three time and I haven't been able to get into it yet. The beginning is slow.
