The Q-tip was invented by a polish immigrant to the United States back in the 1920s,or by his wife anyways. She would tape a piece of cotton to the end of a wooden tooth pick, and clean out the ears of the family. He presented the idea to his bosses at work, but they didnt like it...so he started his own company the infant baby novelty company. He marketed the idea with the name
Baby Gays, times were different back then, but the name didnt really catch. anyhow, someonetold him to name his product Q-Tip Baby Gays..the Q standing for Quality.Sometime after that,Q-tip stuck, and still sticks,in our ear...Im sure someone will cut and paste from Wikipedia soon,so then you will have the Names and Dates too!. So,your Answer is "Q" is for Quality!!

It stands for 'quality'. The 'tip' part is for the cotton swab at each end.
