"p hat" means proportion in the field of statistics. It looks like a "p" with a ^ on top. I'd like to know how to type it on a word processor.

If you are in Microsoft Word, you can go to 'Insert' > 'Field' and choose 'Eq'. It should give you the option to launch the Equation editor. From there you can type 'p' then choose 'Embellishments' on the tool bar. I think the 3rd one is for 'Embellishments' and you can then choose the caret ^. That will make a p hat character.

I've looked for a Unicode equivalent and haven't been able to find one and you certainly won't find it under Character map, which only has a limited number of characters.
