I ran into a pole at work today and bumped my head a good one. My employer just kinda smiled. I worked my full shift even though I have a terrible headache. I didn't get a chance to put ice on it much because I was so busy ringing customers. I am home now but feel really dizzy. Am I over reacting?

this happened as I walked in to go to work. Lots of customers seen me and a couple cashiers but they really didn't pay to much attention. I passed my boss to go the break room but he didnt seem concerned.

"Overreacting" how? Yes, your employer should have been concerned, since it could be liable for worker's compensation. You could check on this with the State. But it sounds like you didn't tell the employer how you were really feeling. I mean, let's face it, it's funny when someone walks into a pole--at least in movies, etc., it's done as a joke. If you didn't tell your boss straight out,
"Look, I feel really sick, see the bruise?" how is she to know how you feel?

Usually an incident report would be filled out so there is a public record of what occurred and your employer should ask if medical assistance is required and go from there. It does not sound like you have very good OH&S procedures so maybe this is something you can bring up with your manager?

Your boss should have made sure you were ok, but at the same time you should have told him that your were not 100%. If it were to escalate now, he has the upperhand because you didnot report the incident officially and you completed you shift.
Your boss has a responsibility to ensure a safe workplace and follow state and federal laws for all accidents in the workplace.
My advice, is to see him first thing in the morning, there is a bracketed time to report accidents, in Australia it is 48hours.

Hopefully they will do what's needed. If they haven't, call an ambulance and get yourself taken care of. They have workman's comp insurance for this sort of thing. They are responsible for a safe work environment and to see that you receive proper care if you are injured at work.

On edit: You may have to fill out an injury form at work to report the injury. If they dissuade you from doing so, it's improper and likely illegal. Document it if it happens and see a laywer.

For any injury they should of have you go to the emergency room. Normally this is done for insurance reasons. They set-up an account with the local hospital for their employees. I got some alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) in my eye cleaning something relative to my work. I wash my eye out and it felt better, but they made me go to the hospital as part of there policy and even paid for a taxi can to take me there and bring me back.

Please don't waste any more time and get to the Emergency Room, quick! Dizziness may be a sign of something more serious going on. Your employer should be concerned for your welfare and they should definitely be understanding of a closed head injury, which it sounds like you have.

You need to be seen by a doctor and let them know that this happened at work. Your need to file an injury report with your employer. This is a time limit to get these things done, so please, please get on this right away.
