I have no idea, but don't remove anything mechanical on your car for any reason, they don't add stuff for shits and giggles, don't risk it.

That item is a torque arm,And you very much do need it. When Chevy went to a coil spring suspension in many of its cars (like a Camaro) they stopped using leaf springs which control axle torque and side to side movement. With the coil spring set up they have coil springs to support the weight 2 control arms to provide side to side stability and a large torque arm to handle positive and negative rotating torque and to help locate the rear end, also there might be a track bar that provides side to side stability and also locates the rear end instead of/or in addition to the control arms.

If its round and goes from an output shaft on your tranny to the center of the rear axle to another output shaft that would be your drive-shaft. And unless you like walking I would suggest you leave it attached. However if your vehicle is 4WD, and the rear shaft fails, you can use the 4WD, system to get you either home or to a repair shop.

That is a torque arm. What ever you do don't remove it. If you do the first time you take off like a jack rabitt you will twist the differential right out from undernieth it.

sounds like you have an f-body (camaro/firebird) its the torque arm. when tou hammer on the gas the wheels spin, but as a reaction to the wheels spinning the axle wants to spin in the opposite direction removing that bar will greatly decrease your off the line traction, but it doesnt HAVE to be there, it would just be pretty stupid to remove it.

if this is on a trans am or camero its a track bar and yes its a good idea to have it in there it stops wheel hop and the rear end from twisting under heavy load

it sounds like a stabilizer brace. it keeps the driveshaft in place on hard starts(drag) and holds the rearend in place. as the wheels grip they want to separate form the rest of the vehicle( unknown since you did not specify)

If it is perfectly round, and has U-joints on each end, then that is your driveshaft, and without it attached, you will not go very far at all.
