Depends on the fish. In case you don't know, there are millions of different kinds of fish, which means many of different ways to tell the gender of fish. Some you can not tell unless you see them mate.

it all really depends on the fish. some fish, like swordtails, you can tell them apart really easily. others like oscars, and cichlids, you can't. you have to do some research on the fish of your choice.

Look into their eyes.If they wink at you then they are the opposite sex.
