is there something he seems to be interested in?
Pay attention to the little details, and work with that.
If it's say, he is deeply involved in band. Plays the trumpet or something. Give him a seashell horn. They're really neat.
Or if he seems sorta adventurous, give him a little scavenger hunt that leads him to you. It'll be a fun thing to do.
