For those of Greek Ancestry it is VERY real. Espeically since it is one of the places they end up when they die (IF they were adnerants to the worship of the gods.) Greeks that did NOT worship the Greek gods...well....

I don't think so. Personally, I don't think it's any crazier to believe in Elysium than in the Christian heaven. Lochnessy: you can't say it's not real "because all the Greek gods are gone"... The existence of gods depends on the belief of the individual. If you believe in the Greek gods, then they exist. Besides, what do the Greek gods have to do with Elysium? They don't judge people and send them to different parts of the Underworld...

My favorite definition of Elysium is the one in Ambrose Bierce's "The Devil's Dictionary":
ELYSIUM, n. An imaginary delightful country which the ancients foolishly believed to be inhabited by the spirits of the good. This ridiculous and mischievous fable was swept off the face of the earth by the early Christians — may their souls be happy in Heaven!

No, it's not. It's the Greek ideal, and as far as I know the Greek Gods are all gone today.

To some people yes...to others no. The question is, do you have what it takes to understand and find the way?
