If I do give out money, it's a feeling I get to give at the spur of the moment, depending upon my finances at the time, if they are physically handicapped, and if they look like they are under the influence, and may be using their earnings to buy more of where that came from.
I was with a good friend once, who went and brought food for a homeless woman with small children in a shopping cart in a parking lot. Upon receiving the hot food, she just tossed it in the trash. It was obviously money she wanted. It was hard for me after that to feel pity.
Most homeless people don't like the shelters, even if they are an option for them, which is unfortunate, because some of their needs could be met through the use of them. It's a very sad, but growing problem in a lot of cities.

Money? No I won't any longer. I gave money to this street person for some food. I came back out of the store and he had a bottle of booze. Food? Well, I also had done that and they just grabbed it without even a thank you. They all were just so unappreciative. I don't have to do either of those and feel guilty. I do help many other ways in society by working in this field but to give money? I just won't do it again.

In Houston,TX recently, Mayor White ask that we donate to centers that will help the homeless. The begging at the intersections was getting so bad that because of traffic it was not safe & many other legitimate reasons we are not to donate directly. I will give food and covering but no money. I have much compassion and when I see them I always say ~~~~~~
There for the Grace of God go I. ~~~~~

If I have some extra money, I always donate to homeless people. It's rough being poor, and it's even worse if you're homeless.

I have given them money. I look at it this way. If they are dishonest, I will not have to answer for their deeds. Only my own.

I sure do...... They may not do the right thing with it, but I know I did. You never know where some one is in their walk, but you can help rather than judge them.
