Some scientists speculate that our sun has an unseen companion star whose orbit brings it close to the solar system about once every 26 million years. I think this star was called Nemesis. Will it ever return? If it does, will it cause widespread diaster? Anybody know anything more about this star?

This question has nothing to do with Star Wars.

you've hit pretty much all the points about it. Nemesis was theorized as a way to explain mass extinctions. Basically the theory is that every 26 million years our Suns companion dwarf star Nemesis disturbs the Oort Cloud, sending millions of comets into the inner solar system, vastly increasing our odds of being hit by a extinction level event. It was never proven to exist however. Dont worry though, even if it is real, the last mass extinction was 5 million years ago...so we have another 21 million or so till is comes back

There is no evidence to indicate that the mythic dark star that is sometimes called "Nemesis" exists.

Nemesis was the Greek name of a Goddess of retributive justice ("justly deserved punishment") on whose story the text that is now called The Revelation (last book of the Bible) is based.

It's all very old stuff that predates any scientific understanding of the way the universe is put together.

The only Death Star I've ever heard of is the one that Darth Vader rides around in.
At least I'm out having fun and enjoying being around people instead of pondering impending doom!
Have a nice day!!

I like watching Star Wars for all the answers to my outer space related questions. Those movies have such detail. Gosh, it makes me want to watch them all again.

Even if what you say is true, is it really worth the worry you are causing yourself? You know, sometimes we worry over the silliest things. If we cannot change it, why worry about it? You'll only shorten your life with ulcers or coronary heart disease from hypertension worrying all the time.
