Why would ANY divine being even care what happens during a sporting event?

know it all, you need to calm down. I never said I don't like religios freedom, I think it is the beauty of our country that we can follow whatever religion we want.
What I am saying is that I question the divinity of any supreme being if they care about a sporting event, while people are living in the streets and starving to death.

Because they want to.
They may not be praying for anything except that no one involved is injured during the game. They may be praying for their own safety. They may be praying for any number of reasons, but they do so because it's their choice.
In a way, it's a superstition. Many coaches would rather have a superstitious player on their team than one who isn't, simply because that superstitious player will go through each of their personal preparation rituals, while another player might not be mentally or physically completely prepared to play.

Their asking God to help them get through this game with no injuries and to play good and maybe even win!

because we are 'one nation, under GOD'. if you don't want religous freedom, move to china. they'll be happy to toss your stupid *ss in jail for speaking your mind.
