My mom is 42 and has six kids and last year she finished her degree. It's never too late to go back to school. It's better to try and risk it not working out than to not try at all.

I have seen OLD people Im talking 40s to 50s that go to college! You are VERY young and its NOT too late for you to go to college. Even if its just community college. You should only do social work if you absolutely want to not because you have a felony. The felony isnt even bad so you stole something once?? Everyone makes mistakes and learns from the. You will be okay. You go to college and get the degree that YOU REALLY WANT!! Good luck and best wishes to you.

On the contrary, if you had a felony and managed to put that behind you and put yourself through college - you're quite impressive.
You have two choices for where you can be four or five years from now...
You can be 27 with a felony conviction, but you've put yourself through college since and earned a degree and started a career, or...
You can be 27 with a felony conviction.
Your choice.
On edit: As a former employer, I'd be quite impressed with option #1. With option #2, don't bother wasting my time. People screw up; I'm not perfect either, but it's the rare person who can move beyond it. Go for it, and good luck.

You are never too old to learn, to go to college.
When applying for student loans, they will ask you if you have ever been convicted of a felony and this may make receiving student loans, grants, etc ... almost impossible. Sorry. Perhaps your local Vocational Rehabilitation Training Program may be of assistance here. Unless, you have the funding yourself to further your education (in which case ... ROCK ON!).
Having worked in the field of human services (as a social worker and a behavioral consultant), is it currently the trend to ask for a criminal record check in the job interview process. This may impede your goals to become a social worker ... yet, you won't know if you don't go out there and do it.
I'm not meaning to sound dismal and disparaging, it's reality.
It's never a waste of time to educate yourself, no matter how old you are or what your particular life circumstances are or have been. I finished my bachelor's degree at the age of 29, even though I had initially started college at the age of 17. Life happens sometimes ... and sometimes, I think life experience makes education more worthwhile!
Best of Luck in your endeavors!!! GO FOR IT ... if it's your dream, you owe that to yourself to make it happen!

You should go to college definitely. Almost all of the classes that they offer to major in require at least a few years of English as some of the credits. I never thought that English in college was needed, since we have to take it since 1'st grade untill 12'th and it is the same stuff every year, but I guess it does.
