Isn't that the most rediculous thing?! My boyfriend is a waiter at Venetian and was just bitching about that last week. People always say that "they just don't know how to tip in America" blah blah blah... That is absolute crap they "just don't know." ITS ALL AN EXCUSE! Its so sad that many foregin tourists are like that... You get a lot of that here in Vegas =(

In europe and in Japan...there is no such thing as a tip. Why? because you're paid to DO YOUR JOB. There are plenty of worse jobs that never see tips: i.e. garbage men?!? I hate how in the US...the tip has become a mandatory expected thing..especially at 15%..if you combine tax...your paying 25% more for your meal.
A tip should be what it was...extra money for superior service. If a waiter is always on top of getting your drinks and checking on your food etc etc...maybe they deserve a couple extra bucks...but if he just brings my friend and i are food..and drinks..and lets say he orders a $20 meal and I order a $100 meal..why do I owe him $15 and my friend only $4...for the same service (the server didnt cook my meal).
There is an argument that waiters get most of their wages in tips..only a few places do this, and if they do...if you do not get tipped enough to cover minimum wage, by law the restraunt must pay the server the difference up to min wage. If that happens, then you probably are a pretty bad server and don't deserve anything more than minimum wage. When I was in college..i wasnt near my phone and the guy actuallly hiked up to the third floor to bring my pizza..yes that was added service and he got a nice tip..but if he/she just brings ur pizza..food, drink whatever..I tip 10% to be nice, that and I dont want my food spit in next time i come in for "being cheap"..when everyone else who does their job in the world (assuming it's not a server)..do they b*tch about not getting 10-15% tips everyday?
p.s. BTW i've received the best service ever from restraunts in Europe and Japan..and people in Japan will actually run out and give you your money back if you try to leave them a tip. Because excellent service is part of your JOB DESCRIPTION when you were hired.

TIPS; an acronym for "To Insure Prompt Service". It originated in England when the client would come into the Inn and put or push a certain amount of cash to the Innkeeper before the client was even served. This was done "To Insure Prompt Service". That is what a tip is for. Here in Canada we look at the service of the waiter before deciding on what sort of tip is to be given. If the service is poor then you can expect a small tip. If your service is great then you have a right to expect a large tip! Surly waiters or waitresses get pennies to insult or nothing at all.
As I understand it in the United States the employers of an eating establishment pay poorly letting the waiter/waitress rely on the good will of the restaurants clients to suppliment their income.
The Canadian French come from a different culture than yours. As a result there is a vast difference in attitude in Montreal, or Quebec city that in Las Vegas. Personally I find it a form of extortion to have to pay for my meal, and then have to pay a certain percentage again for my meal, just because the owner of a restaruant is not going to pay full scale of even the minimum wage.Your country and my country may share the same continent but we are different countries, and we do have foreign ideas about many things we share.

OK,if you have individuals, that's one thing, but groups on tour are told of customs in the USA and they are just cheap or WANT to play dumb.
Really NO excuse, no matter how you look at it.
Most Canadians know someone who lives here in the states and have been told of the US customary way of doing things, and are just being cheap travelers (like most).

Americans are the best tippers, and tipping is a concept invented here in America.
It's not that they're stingy, but probably just not familiar with the concept very well.

I were there previously and observed a similar element. One dozen causes a million) they're attempting to simulate the real Paris. 2) They moved to Vegas with the promise of having some "tremendous" severe paying pastime and are bitter about the very actuality they had to change right into a waiter. 3) They idea the information will be good thinking that is so "severe end" and then got here across out clone of a lot of issues in Vegas it ended up being phoney severe end. the real wealthy those who tip massive do no longer bypass there. 4) clone of various position in Vegas lately you get dealt with like crap in case you at the prompt are not wealthy. If human beings can experience that you do not have rather some money they are going to manage you want crap because they understand you at the prompt are unlikely to tip massive besides. clone of bell hops they are going to manage you want crap at the same time as they understand ahead of time they're purely going to get $a million in step with bag in any case. 5) lots of them would properly be gay and suferring from "gay rage". 6) the generic public treats them like crap and so as that they ascertain they'd as well reply in form. 7) they're alcoholics and hung over each and each of the time. Being rude/propose/bitter is something that rather some alcoholics do. 8) they're mad that the dice on the craps table "went chilly" on them. 9) in the experience that they are immediately they're mad because they do no longer have the money for for women to need to have sex with them. 10) in the experience that they are over 23 years previous they're bitter about being so previous and doing a "loser" pastime. 11) they're disillusioned about the very shown actuality that it is going to be 112 outdoors on the prompt and 100 and fifteen tomorrow and that this is going to be the case daily for months on end. 12) they're mad that they do no longer make adequate money to do each and each of the interesting issues Vegas has to provide. they're unhappy and bitter living in some crappy position of abode in some crappy component of city.

in most countries being a waitor is a life-long career not just a job, they go to school for waiting and are paid well and do not rely on tips to make a living, also a small tip is included in the bill in other countries
