Well, my laptop has a few places to put USB but the one in the back doesn't work when I put the Printer USB chord in. Since I set my printer to USB001 did it make a difference or is that USB outlet in the back just broken.

USB 1.1 is an older standard interface. USB 2.0 is the newer faster standard. USB 2.0 is backwards compatible, but 1.1 is not upwards compatible.

Added: It should not make any difference which USB port you use, and I don't understand why you needed to identify the USB ports at all. Reboot and try your printer in another port. If it still doesn't work, chances are it isn't because fo the USB ports.

USB001 and USB002 is a way for your computer to communicate with those usb ports. USB001 will refer to one usb port whereas 002 will be another. It just keeps your computer all in order =)

USB001 and USB002 are virtual printer ports. THere's no difference between the two, they just needed unique names.
