I have a 2000 ford ranger truck. I just changed the head gaskets. Now when my truck idles it wants to stop running..and the oil pressure gauge goes wacky..it goes from low to high back and forth.. What could cause this??

coolant burnt in the combustion chamber will burn out the o2 sensors, coolant gets in there when you blow a head gasket which is why you replaced it im assuming. bad o2 sensors will cause fluctuating idle, while idling up and down your oil pressure will show this by going up and down. but i would still go get the codes read before you replace anything.

check the oil pressure by hooking a gauge to read it( abnormal reading indicate clogged passages, clogged filter, obstrution at the bottom of the oil pump screen). before you did the repair, was the check engine light on? if it was on, you need to clear the code so the computer can relearn.

It could be a number of sensors gone bad ,a clogged fuel filter or bad injectors.
Take to a garage or dealer and let them run a computer analysis.

which engine?....did you change intake manifold gaskets also..............did you insure proper alignment of the gasket.....did you torque all the bolts to spec,s.....did you sequence while torquing......sounds like intake gasket leak[sucking air] which will make your idle very erratic & cause it to die out.......the oil pressure goes up & down with your rpm........squirt oil along your intake gasket seam......if your engine sucks it in while running..you have a leak!
