This weed is is in St. Augustinegrass, location south west Florida, low growth, very green, small leaf, rug looking, thick close growth, can easily be confused with lawn from 20 feet, smothers the lawn. I need the name of the weed along with which herbicide to use.

From what you are describing, I believe you probably have either Chickweed or Pigweed.

The best site for weed identification on the web is at
http://web.aces.uiuc.edu/weedid/index.html. I use this site whenever I am in doubt.

The site has a question/answer elimination guide that will help you narrow it down. But I would search google images on the ones I told you and see if these might match yours.

THEN--very important--since you have St. Augustine, a chemically sensitive grass, I would consult a local nursery (by phone usually works) and ask them the best herbicide to use that will not harm your lawn.

Best of luck on keeping your lawn beautiful!

My opinion is you should take a weed to the local garden center and ask them what will get rid of it. Although all weed and feeds are usually geared to take care of all weeds that grow in lawns, that produce seed and that will probably do the job for you. You can also just add a weed control to the grass and it will do it's thing. Asking a local nursery would be better than asking us here. Good luck.

There are two that I can think of--wild strawberry and another that starts with a "R". If it is a small broadleaf, get and herbicide with Banvel in it and follow the directions to kill the broadleaf out of the St. Augustine.
If not sure call your County Agent.

Are you sure it is a weed and not another species of grass invading your lawn. No one would be able to certainly identify it without looking at it, but maybe it is Zoysia Grass:

This site has pictures of lots of different possibilities but it would be easier bringing in a sample to a local nursery.

hard to tell from just a description, but it sounds like bermuda grass. go to your local co-op or feed store, and take a sample and ask them what to use. better yet, take it to your local ag extension agent.
