It seems to me that this is true.

I mean no disrespect to anyone.

I use to be a lot more conservative than I am now and as I went through university I noticed others also became more liberal.

I was wondering if others noticed this as well.

No, I believe that the more intelligent and/or educated a person is, the more likely that person is to be fiscally conservative. I think that people that are institutionalized in education, i.e. life-long students, are the exception to this, as most educational facilities breed and encourage a liberal perspective.

Of course this makes some sense, as many of these professional students are getting money from the government in the form of grants and scholarships that are paid for by the rest of the people that are out in the workforce. This obviously places the student in a position to support getting money from the government (liberalism), versus the worker, who is feeling that they're not benefiting from the taxes paid. And the more educated the worker, usually the more successful he/she is, so more taxes are paid, and more animosity is built...

I heard a quote once, and it kind of parallels this thought- this isn't the quote exactly, but it's close: If you're not a Democrat when you turn 21, you don't have a heart, if you're not a Republican when you turn 31, you don't have a brain.

I COMPLETELY disagree! Liberals have led to the creation of the welfare state. They believe that successful, independent, and intelligent people should be taxed to death to pay for the poor decisions of others. Let me give you an example. My husband and I both have our Bachelors and are working toward our Masters. We have no children and have never received grants or ANY form of public assistance---no Medicaid, no food stamps, no subsidized housing--NOTHING!!! On the other hand, we know several couples who had one or two kids at the age of 18 or 19. They are also going to college, but receive free grant money for their educations. They live in subsidized housing, their kids are on Medicaid, and they get about $400 a month in food stamps. When we finish our degrees, we'll have to start paying back about $60,000-$70,000 dollars. What will THEY have to pay back? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! While we've been struggling and working full-time, they can afford to work part-time, take vacations, eat out, and buy unnecessary "luxury" items, all with MY taxpayer money! Liberals have no concept of personal responsibility. If you make bad decisions, you should have to pay for them. You should not be rewarded with government hand-outs. Where's the motivation in our society? The harder you work, the more they take away from you. It's stealing, plain and simple. We earn about three times as much as our friends, but have roughly the same standard of living. Why? Because we pay for our own way. Everything we have, we have earned. Liberals don't see it this way. They think that handing out money will get those poor unfortunate souls on the "right track." Well, they're completely wrong about that. All liberals do is ensure that those "poor souls" will become entirely dependent on society. Liberals say that conservatives are for the rich. Well who do you think creates the jobs in our society? The poor? I think not. If you tax those who create the jobs, those who create the wealth, then you are essentially destroying the economy. This has been proven time and time again. Is anyone aware that most "poor" people in this country (poor being a relative term), receive thousands and thousands of dollars back in tax returns? Here's the strange part: they don't actually pay any taxes in! We know people that pay NO taxes but receive $5,000-$7,000 back every year, all for being able to reproduce. Wow..big freaking accomplishment! Give some of that tax return money back to those people who actually PAY taxes, i.e. "rich people" and business owners, and that economy would really take off on the right track. So anyway....the point of my rant is this: liberals are stupid---plain and simple. They can't see the big picture. Their idea of a "solution" is handing out MY money to other people. Liberals have their theories and ideals, but they have no common sense, and it seems quite obvious that none of them have taken even a basic economics course. I'd definitely say that that is an extreme lack of education!

I don't know what you mean by liberal views. I consider myself liberal--tolerant of all peoples, supportive of same sex marriage, concerned for the environment, love animals, hate the NRA--but it seems to me that most of the people who call themselves liberal today are perverse, closed minded people, who are inured to the suffering of others. People who won't kill a mass murderer but are anxious to kill an unwanted child, people who call anyone with an idea different from their own stupid, people who don't care that Iraqis got tortured, raped and murdered before the U.S. stepped in, people who like the First Amendment only when a Democrat is speaking, people who only support minorities when they're in the Democrat party, people who want to see Americans die to prove their petty points...I hope that's not what you call education or liberal views.

It depends on whether you're equating education with how far a person has progressed in his schooling. I consider myself liberal in my views, however, I only completed the 10th grade before I had to drop out.

Not true, look at our government. There are a lot of educated people working for "W" who have education and they are neither liberal nor smart.
Education gives you the tools, you do with them what you can.
Some of the more liberal people I know are not well educated, and some educated people I know have far from liberal views.

Yes, in many cases this is true. One big reason is because just about all of our public colleges are generally more liberal. Students go to school seeking to understand the world we live in and try to find all the facts at liberal schools, but do they really get this freedom of opinion and choice? NO. Most liberal professors at colleges will push there ideas and opinions down your throat until you crack. Then you went to school thinking you are open minded and believe everyone has an opinion, but you have have really been brainwashed by the liberals into hating everyone who doesn't agree with you. Sounds pretty open minded-doesn't it?

You have only half of the picture.

The most highly educated people do tend to vote Democrat.

But so do the least educated people.

Democrats get most of their votes from both ends of the education spectrum -- the most educated and the least educated.

Republicans get most of their votes from people with an AVERAGE amount of education.

Some educated people go into education, a field that liberals protect to the utmost. So teachers are usually liberal. Educated economists are not however.

It is no coincidence that Professors, Academics, Poet Laureates, winners of Peace prizes are invariably Liberal thinkers... Your assertion spanks of the truth and I don't believe for a moment that you are being disrespectful.... Great observation and question.

Exit polls say the exact opposite. The more education you have the less likely you are to vote liberal. But to make up for it.. having a criminal record is a good sign somebody will support the liberal agenda.
