The plot of a movie would be the story or scenario it tells, in chronological order. The plot usually doesn't contain minor details that aren't necessary for story development, just main points.

The plot is what happens, action after action. For example, the plot of Dances with Wolves would begin: a Civil War Army lieutenant tries to commit suicide and accidentally inspires his men to victory over a Confederate group. As a reward, the lieutenant is allowed to choose his own post, and he chooses to see the frontier, "before it's gone". He arrives finding the frontier fort deserted, but chooses to stay, alone. He keeps a journal. He encouters a wolf, and then he encounters a Lakota Sioux holy man. (and on and on...)
