Are caribbean monk seals extincted?

I'm doing a power point for my 6 grd. class and I was just wondering because I can't find anything on google or yahoo, some sites say they are some say they aren't, plz help :-)

The website listed below says that the Caribbean monk seal was declared extinct in 1996.
