I had an abnormal pap, and then the coloposcopy. The coloposcopy showed that I had pre cancerous cells, and I had to have part of my cervix cut off. I have had 1 or 2 abnormal's since then and they told me that it was nothing to worry about those times. I guess a lot of women have abnormal paps and it's nothing to worry about, they just keep an eye on it to make sure the cells don't get worse and turn precancerous. She also told me that certain drugs can cause abnormal paps, such as estrogen, and progestin(sp?). Smoking can also be a reason for abnormal paps. I think that is why my other ones came back abnormal.

I'm not a Gyn, but I've gotten an abnormal pap smear or two. Sometimes it doesn't mean anything. Some women are sensitive and bleed a little when the culture is taken. That can lead to an abnormal pap smear. Sometimes it is something.
An abnormal pap smear can be indicative of cervical precancer (this isn't the same thing as cancer, it just means that you need to be carefully monitored). Check out this website, it may help: http://www.abnormalpapsmears.com/

I had one abnormal pap smear in 2002. They said I had an "infection" and sent me a prescription for an antibiotic.
Every pap after that has been normal.
(Infection is in quotes above because I developed something serious a few weeks later. My paps since 2002 should NOT be normal, but they are.)

It means you have abnormal cells showing up on your results. Sometimes it mean something and other times it is just nothing. Yours is ok so far but do not skip any of your paps in the cells do show something is wrong next time. I have had 2 abnormal paps in my lifetime.

I'm not a doctor.
My mom had an adnormal pap smear about 2 yrs ago. It means that you have adnormal (most likely precancerous) cells on the cervix. If not removed, then most likely will turn into cervical cancer.
Maybe you should see a different GYN.

Have you been tested for HPV and everything else?
you should do all you can to improve your immune system, eat healthy, quit smoking and any heavy drinking (if you do those things) and take a good multivitamin with at least 400 mcg of folic acid.
go here: http://familydoctor.org/223.xml
to find out all about pap smears.

I've had that happen to me too. And I went thru the cloposkapy, and everything was normal. You might want to try changing your diet (I was drinking a lot of beer back then). I've had a pap recently and everything was fine. Take care and if you want to e-mail me at rmctelvn30@yahoo.com.

Make sure you don't have sex a few days before you go in. Sperm and lubricants will show up as abnormal cells on your cervix.

it just means your cells grow weird. it doesn't necesariy mean you have cancer, but it is a possibility. the advertisemtets that say cervical cancer is caused by HPV don't tell you that it can also happene naturally, just like breast cancer. if you're really worried, ask the obgyn who does your papsmear what it could mean and if you should be worried, they tell you.
