These had the ribbons braided across the top and then the ribbon hung down the one side with the little beads at the ends. If anyone remembers how to make these please let me know. I have alittle girl that I've told these about and she would love to have some. So I would love to see how you make these. Help me, if you can. Thanks!!

It is hard to explain, but I remember that we used to braid the ribbons onto a metal barrette, I think the kind with an open rectangular space in the middle.

Ok I found you a website. There are instructions and pictures.

Best wishes!

Oh what a blast from the past! you tie a knot and loop it around the little thing at the back of the barrette(whaat is thaat called? the thing at the top of the barrette that only comes down about 1/3" or so?) that will secure your ribbon..... 3 strands of small ribbon...1/4" wide....and braid in front of barrette through the little hole in the middle of barrette...i guess when you get to the end tie a knot or glue it down and then add the beads at the end and tie a small knot at the end....i only made a few of them...sorry i couldnt be of more help!
remember those clips with the feathers on the end??? LOL

WOW-- talk about a trip down memory lane! LOL

If memory serves, I think the ribbon was just tacked on the end of the barrette opposite the opening with a glue gun.
Then just braid across and over the top -- get to the end, another dab of glue, then drape the ribbons down, add the beads and tie a knot.
You might need to play with it a bit, but that is what I can remember now!

The barrettes had two connected metal "bars" with an opening in between like these :http://www.dollardays.com/images/k03/image2/be-031.jpg
You used 1/4 inch ribbon folded in half and attached on the back at one end of the barrette and wove it through the center from both sides. Using multiple strands of ribbon provided more color possibilities and more "tails" to put beads on.
don't forget hot glue to secure the beginning of the ribbon and to seal the knots below the beads.

yes. OMG...i have a pair that i kept. your cool. not sure if stores carry the metal barrets with a space in its center. they're about 1 to 2 inch long barrets, right. use thin ribbon, two colors. you'll have four long ends in total . two long ends at both ends of the barret. criss cross the ribbon and tie small knots at the ends or place small beads on the ends depending how old your daughter is,, so she won't swallow or choke on the beads. hope this helps.

Thanks for the memories as I made these for my daughter who is now in mid 20's. And even more thanks to those of you who took the time to find the pattern for this lady. Warm thoughts to all of you. Smile.
