In the simplest terms, it is how heavy a thing is, independant of size, 1 pound of gold is the same weight as 1 pound of feathers, but is more dense, so there's more weight/mass for each little bit of it. A feather made of gold is heavier than a real feather because it has higher density. Density can also be described as how closely packed the particles that make something up are.

Density, or volumic mass (ISO 31), is a measure of mass per unit volume. The average density of an object equals its total mass divided by its total volume. An object made from a comparatively dense material (such as iron) will have more mass than an equal-sized object made from some less dense substance (such as aluminium).

In Physics there are many different quantities that are referred to as densities (current density, probability density, etc.). What you are most likeley referring to is the mass density of a homogeneous substance, which is given by the mass of a particular amount of the substance divided by its volume. This quantity is usually reported in g/cm^3 or kg/L, and is sometimes called the specific gravity.

Density is how tightly packed a substance is and it iss expressed as weight per certain volume. if the object has exactly the same desity as the liquid, then its bouyancy equal its weight.
