Dresden file book series by Jim Butcher. There are 8 books in the series beginning with stormfront. Each novel in the series is told from the fictional perspective of Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden (named by his father after Harry Houdini, Harry Blackstone, Sr., and David Copperfield). Dresden is the only professional wizard in modern-day Chicago (he is in the phone book, under "Wizards").In the world of The Dresden Files, magic is real, along with vampires, demons, spirits, faeries, werewolves, and more. The general public that Harry Dresden works to protect does not believe in magic or the large array of dark forces which regularly conspire against them. This makes it tough for Harry to get by as a working wizard and private eye.He is aided by Bob,a talking skull.Karrin Murphy-a police officer and Thomas-a white court vampire.
I like it because people like Dresden are really rare.Someone asks Dresden why he's courting death by saving all these people. He replies that 'someone has to.'

WAS, by Geoff Ryman. Tells three stories simultaneously: the life of L. Frank Baum and what lead him to write "The Wizard of Oz," the relationship between Judy Garland and her mother during the filming of the movie, and a contemporary tale of a young person dying. Extremely moving at times and very well written, although you might find parts of it disturbing.

My favourite book would have to be 'A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius' by Dave Eggers. I love Eggers artistic and adventurous style of writing, as well as his humour. This book shows how humans react to tragedy and how Eggers managed to prevail in the face of adversity. It explores the ideas of 'wasted youth' and contains themes about mortality, family and feeling nostalgic.

Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe.
Things Fall Apart, Achebe's first novel, was published in 1958 in the midst of the Nigerian renaissance. It tells the story of an Ibo village of the late 1800's and one of its great men, Okonkwo, who has achieved much in his life. He is a champion wrestler, a wealthy farmer, a husband to three wives, a title-holder among his people, and a mamber of the select egwugwu whose members impersonate ancestral spirits at tribal rituals. "The most impressive achievement of Things Fall Apart..." maintains David Carroll in his book Chinua Achebe, "is the vivid picture it provides of Ibo society at the end of the nineteenth century.
