The Frankford area of North Philly is really rough, and also most of West Philly.

I noticed that many people are stating that North and West Philadelphia are the worst places to live in Philadelphia, I'm wondering if that's because there are more minorities in those areas? Every City has good and not so good areas. Some areas of concern in Philadelphia are: North, West, and South Philly; Port Richmond; Fishtown; Kensington; some parts of the Northeast; Mt, Airy; and Oak Lane. It really is a crap shoot.

There are a lot of areas that are not the safest. As in any major city you can find good and bad (and sometimes within blocks of eachother). If you go near Einstein Hospital there are some really bad areas and a few blocks away are million dollar homes and a buiding designed by Frank Llyod Wright (Elkins Park). You can stay only on Broad Street and see the difference by blocks. To see the change start at the river and drive north on Broad it is pretty interesting....but lock your car doors....lol

Dont be unsafe. Most people are hard-working, God-fearing and wont bother you but dont go looking for trouble.

To Terri ALL OF PHILLY IS NOT rough. Just because you may not been able to afford the nice areas doesnt mean all of philly is rough. I live in Philly and I sleep with my windows open at night in the summer with no fear.

Go north, my good friend. Take the Broad St. subway to the Susquehanna Dauphin station and walk a couple of blocks north. Nice knowing you.
