fear of the unknown; people generally want to have a sense of what is going to happen to them most of the time, and no one can really tell them what will happen after death

I think there are 2 things:
1 Fear of the unknown as mentioned above
but I also think there's a second reason:
2 License to do anything.
If someone is convinced there either is no afterlife and whatever happens while we are alive ends there, then there are no reasons to make sure we do good, or be afraid of doing something that some would consider bad.
Many religions use the 'after-life' as a way to regulate our behaviour while we are alive. Basically: if you are bad, you will pay later.
But if there is no later, then there is no reason to fear.
I'm not saying that people who don't believe in an afterlife are bad, but I think that they have one less thing to worry about.

Precisely because a) we do not know and b) it concerns us
However, as no one has reported back from such an experience, there is absolutely nothing to go by, and that just scares people. It's as if someone said to you, 'tomorrow, x will happen to you' (x being the unknown) Obviously you would be concerned, because 'x' could be anything! I think that is why we are so eager to know what happens.

I think a large majority of humans for some reason believe there is a plan to everything and also cannot accept that there actually isnt anything after we have left this life, if there truly is nothing after you have died then there is no problem because it wont even be oblivion you just will no longer exist. And did you also know that your brain can still emit electrical signals for up to a few hours after death which basically means even though you are dead and no longer breathing but every now and then you will experience weird shattered and mixed up mental hallucinations weird huh?

The answer to your question is fear of the unknown.
There is no need for this worry as when we pass on we join the spirit world, when you die the spirit or soul has already left your body so all you have is a lifeless shell of nothing.
I have experianced that there is a heaven as we call it so believe that and get on with your living life and no one should worry about Death just a word.

Actually most people are not so eager, people live their whole lives thinking death is something distant and irrelavant. No one thinks they might die in one minute, although we all know so many people younger to us have already died.

Because we are afraid that NOTHING happens after we die, except that our body shuts down permanently and our consciousness winks out forever, while the world around us goes on...the scariest thought ever.
So they urgently want to believe - hope - need - that SOMETHING happens...that we, in some form, survive death.

Curiosity. Plain and simple. People are naturally fascinated by things they can't know. It's a bit like the grass is greener thing and the forbidden fruit syndrome. People want what they cant!

Knowing what to expect in life e.g. what type of restaurant you will be going to on a date, helps you to prepare for it. Knowledge reduces anxiety. The one thing we know for sure is that we are all going to die, and it is the one thing that we really don't know anything about.
