The Beatles, and here's why. They revolutionized the music industry as we know it. They took the rock and roll from the 50s and turned it into a new genre of rock. They created the first artistic use of feedback, the buzz at the beginning of I Feel Fine. They were involved in the first genuine music videos long before there was an MTV. They made what is considered the best rock song in history, Day Tripper. They made the first heavy metal guitar song, tame by todays standards, but all metal regardless in Ticket To Ride. They rapped in What's The News Mary Jane. They were the first band to conceive of albums as a singular entity and not a collection of unrelated singles. Sgt Pepper so changed the way record companies dealt with their talent, that the independent repercussions are still in place today. Electronics companies engineered synthesizers that could reproduce the sounds that the Beatles made in the studios. Not to mention, that even The Rolling Stones admitted that they were the best rock and roll band out there. And finally, nearly everyone who is anyone, from rockers to rappers to boy bands to metal bands will credit The Beatles as some form of inspiration either in their work, their music or the industry as a whole. If that doesn't equte to the best rock band ever, then I don't know who does?
